Sputum Lunae Quo Usque Tandem Abotere Patie

coverSputum Lunae makes ambient that is minimalist even with respect to the genre itself, both in terms of its musical construction and the materials used. It makes use of only one effect: the synth organ. Upon listening to Sputum Lunae’s Quo Usque Tandem Abotere Patie, the tone of this instrument will immediately remind the listener of Thergothon’s Stream from the Heavens; although the sound is not precisely the same, the overall direction and atmosphere is very similar. This conscious choice would perhaps make this release comparable to Ildjarn’s Landscapes, but the speed of the notes is much faster here, the repetition somewhat less straining.

Anyone familiar with the two previously mentioned works will immediately catch the precise orientation of this release. It is contemplative and nocturne music; it is music about eternity and transcendent longing. Quo Usque Tandem Abotere Patie is the translation of that moment when you look up to the night sky and realize the grandeur of the universe, and its ultimately beyond good and evil nature.

What Sputum Lunae bring us in this release is a mixture of both a pleasant longing and an unsettling grieving; it is hope and sadness, satisfaction and eagerness, stillness and movement within each other. What one finds here is nihilism leading on to transcendence; the nigredo overcome.
